BOOKS
So this is going to be a fun post because I'm going to talk to you about two books with mental health issues that I can recommend for young women. I chose these specific fiction titles not because they are conventional but because they show a progressive amount of growth between the beginning and the end.
Something Blue + The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone by Emily Giffin
Darcy is a character from the movie/book Something Borrowed. She is cheated on by her fiancée with her best friend but also cheats on her fiancée with his best friend. She ends up getting pregnant in an attempt to show Rachel and Dex off, only to realize the father wants nothing to do with it, she no longer has a roommate to live with and her parents are dissapointed in her and Rachel and Dex are planning their wedding. Distraught, she moves to London with her old friend from school named Ethan, and in the experience she realizes the mistakes she made, how to be responsible why she pushes people away and that she loves Ethan. It's a story of how one woman can dramatically change even when others deem her unlovable due to Narcissism. It's the ultimate Cinderella story for the personality disordered. In addition, The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone is a short e-book that demonstrates how Darcy was forced to be a woman before her time.
Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes
Rachel is one of the many Walsh sisters. She lives in New York City with her friend. Both of them like clubbing a little bit too much. She's incredibly insecure about herself and in an order to escape her emotions, she becomes a drug addict. Her addiction is a demonstration of insecurity and impulse she had before moving out on her own. She meets her boyfriend Luke on one of her Heroin highs but is unable to maintain the relationship because her addiction drastically changes for the worse. She ends up overdosing on pills and leaving a suicide letter - which leads her to her boyfriend breaking up with her and getting into a rehab clinic. Her time there teaching her about personal responsibility, her own experience with depression and how to create a life without drugs.
